Beginning his yoga journey in 1969 at age 13 in Houston, Texas—alongside his brother Doug—David discovered Ashtanga through K.P. Manju in 1972 and began studying directly with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore in 1973, becoming one of the earliest Western students of the practice.
